Guy with a gunmetal grey Elise parked right next to me just last night - probably only the third or fourth Elise I've seen off of the dealer's lot, and the car is just plain teh sexy.

The incredible good looks coupled with the raw performance (even with the obvious lack of top end) are just incredible.

THAT being said, there is one huge con, already mentioned above - I'm 36 years old, 5 foot 9, little bit of a gut but in decent shape - but getting in and out of an Elise makes me feel like my grandmother. Little bastard is awkward.

I also drive 1600 miles round trip to visit family at least twice a year, not super-fun in my loud cat-less EVO VIII with no cruise control, and I think making that trip in an Elise would make the EVO seem like a Bentley.

But, if I could have a garage queen weekend car, I can't think of many more attractive, better performing beasts out there.

Anyone know what the insurance is like on a Lotus?

I pay roughly the same for the S4, 911, Elise, and S2000, within about a 10% range (between $450 and $500 every 6 months with Allstate in VA). This makes no sense to me, and YMMV. Give that the Elise has no bumpers and replacing the front and rear clamshells is $, it really should be a lot higher.

[QUOTE=OCMusicJunkie,Feb 24 2007, 01:31 AM] Plus, that engine is even more tapped for power than the F20 or F22. I don

There's no theft to worry about. How often are S2000 seats stolen? No one wants parts off a lotus. There's never been a single federal elise stolen.

I'd love an Elise as a track car, but it's too comprised IMO for street use.

didn't feel like a real car, no power steering, list goes on.
i dont think it has power brakes either

if you like the handling of a light weight car this is it. no power brakes or steering because it dosnt need it.

expect a hi rate of repair, difficult to work on, expensive parts

I drove and Exige at LRP. Super nice car for track work. We then took it up the road....like being dragged around the street on a metal trashcan lid.
NOOO thanks.

The original S1 Elise didn't have power brakes or ABS, but the current model (S2/Fed Elise) has both. As the weight approached 2000lb Lotus decided it was necessary.
