Default Effect of oil change on the milage

Today I changed oil in my 540 and observed a sudden drop in milage. BMW has a computer that tells you the milage but since the oil change this afternoon it is showing very low reading and I also smelled gas while filling up after oil change...

Any insights?

Maybe your car developed a leak that just happens to coincide with the oil change. Unless you went to a much thicker oil and/or your ambient temps have dropped due to winter, an oil change shouldn't case a drop in mileage. There is also the possibility that something was damaged inadvertently during the change.
