The top mainstream brand was Honda, with an average retained value of 47.9% after five years.

The top premium brand was Acura, with an average retained value of 44.6% after five years.

Among the model-level wins in 23 market segments, Honda took four, beaten only by Ford, with five top models for holding their resale value.

"Honda has long had a reputation for dependable used vehicles," Joe Spina, director of remarketing at Edmunds, said in a statement. The wins by the Honda and Acura brands "continue to expand the company's status as one of the best values."
The Mustang is killing the competition across a wide range of prices.

Honda CR-V has the second-highest retained value of any vehicle, only surpassed by the Toyota Tacoma pick-up.

I have seen this first hand. Every time I feel like pricing out our DC Tacoma, the values for trade-in are incredible.

Yup - a buddy here in Canada had a 2006 with roughly 130K miles on it, beat up panels, just not well taken care of at all and still got $14K for it AND had two guys fighting for it at his asking price.

People know they can take a beating and the serious off-roaders just want the basic frame/engine anyways, so they'll buy them in any type of condition if the chassis is decent.

Meh. I'm sure I could sell my 2006 Lancer Evo IX SE for at LEAST 70% of it's original MSRP (or at least 85% of what I paid for it brand new 6 years ago.) It's only the second car I've ever bought new and it's held its value the best by far.

The cars have to be CURRENTLY sold to qualify. There are all kinds of niche, older vehicles that have great resale.

I can't believe how well these trucks hold their value. I overpaid for my 05 dcsb Trd sport (because I bought from a dealer) and I could sell it for about what I paid for it. They are amazing trucks and are worth the inflated price.

well if you look at how many "new car" buyers have dropped out of being able to buy a new car since 2007, it makes sense that more and more people want to buy what they assume is a reliable used vehicle
