Yup - a buddy here in Canada had a 2006 with roughly 130K miles on it, beat up panels, just not well taken care of at all and still got $14K for it AND had two guys fighting for it at his asking price.
People know they can take a beating and the serious off-roaders just want the basic frame/engine anyways, so they'll buy them in any type of condition if the chassis is decent.

Meh. I'm sure I could sell my 2006 Lancer Evo IX SE for at LEAST 70% of it's original MSRP (or at least 85% of what I paid for it brand new 6 years ago.) It's only the second car I've ever bought new and it's held its value the best by far.

The cars have to be CURRENTLY sold to qualify. There are all kinds of niche, older vehicles that have great resale.

I have seen this first hand. Every time I feel like pricing out our DC Tacoma, the values for trade-in are incredible.

well if you look at how many "new car" buyers have dropped out of being able to buy a new car since 2007, it makes sense that more and more people want to buy what they assume is a reliable used vehicle
