You missed the point... at least what Toyota is trying to do.
LS460 is the v8 version. The LS600H is supposed to be a v12 competitor. So when does a v12 Merc get 20/22? Or even anything close? It is 12/19 mpg on the s600 Merc.
Will the rich buy into this Marketing? That is yet to be seen.

What? This LS600 is not a a Mercedes V12 competitor. They claimed the performance of a V12? Where is it? 0-60 in 6 seconds from 430 horsepower? Its one thing if they're saying its quieter, nicer, etc... But they said "performance" and thats where this thing falls flat. IMO.
They are trying to use this hybrid thing to claim v12 performance, which we know is not. And they might just fall really short in sales. But Lexus owners are usually not into 0-60 sec games, so they might buy into this hype. And Lexus owners are very loyal because of the service quality from dealers, so they will buy all this line-hook-and-sinker from Toyota.
I had a LX470, so I know it is hard not to be loyal to Lexus. I still miss her, just not her thurst for gas.
Here is a link indicating the v12 claim....
