For nearly the same price, I'd take the Acura TSX in a heartbeat.

Yeah I would take the TSX over the Jetta GLI, the price puts it in a whole new range of cars.

i really like this car along with the A3, i think the 2.0l unit is awsome it has 200hp and 207 ft lbs from 1800-4000rpms i believe and i'm sure you can end up at 250hp and 270ft lbs easily with bolt ons. i really like the DSG! i'm pretty much in love with all those transmissions, bmw's SMG included! and from what i have read this is the best sequential gear box that you can buy..

i'll have to wait to see magazine reviews of the cars abilities, but i'm really liking these cars, my dad had a 1984 vanagon mini van and i loved that thing! even tho it was a 1.9L 93hp bus haha

I don't know why (some) people think VWs don't last. My Passat came with a 10/100K mile powertrain warranty and after 95K miles it still runs and feels as if it's only slightly used. Inside and out it looks 85% like a new car (only slight wear and tear).

Now it's had some problems such as oil leaks (fixed under warranty) and radiator and water pump busted at 70K and 85K miles respectively which I had to pay for.

But over all after 95K miles I'm happy with how it's put together and have not had massive time in the shop which some people seem to predict.
The whole caveat with VW is that their German-made cars are as reliable as any other reasonably reputable company.

The problem for us is that the number of GERMAN-made VW's North America gets is slim-to-none, the Pasaat being a notable exception.

Once again, it was THE single reason I did not get an R32 (it's built on the Skoda line in Bratislava), and (luckily) started shopping around. . .

The only people who will be happy with their Jetta IV's (and probably Jetta V's) will be those with Wolfsburgs. . .

Ahhh, yes. It's time for the periodic VW bashing thread by the Honda fanbois who frequent this site.

You're right, we should ALL drive Hondas.

I don't particularly see this as a VW bashing thread. Can you honestly say that a Passat GLI is worth the same price as a TSX? I think they are nice cars, I love their interiors and their use of AWD in the Audis. But they are just too expensive for what you get. And yes, it may be entirely due to the Euro/Dollar trade, but, hell, reasons don't change the bottom line.

First of all, we're talking about the Jetta GLi. There is no Passat GLi.

Secondly, the GLi is selling at invoice which is $22,799. Go to carsdirect.com and take a look for yourself.

Thirdly, there is no need to claim that this car is unreliable since it was launched a few months ago and there is no reliability data at this time.

And yes I can say that the Jetta is just a nice a car as the TSX. The TSX is a European market Accord for heaven's sake. You all make it sound like it's a 3 series. It's an Accord with an Acura badge.

Not that there isn't some truth to what you're saying, but the overwhelming majority of VW bashing I hear comes from VW owners themselves. In fact I have yet to find a person in real life who ownes a recent model VW who says they'd buy another one.
