Whatever it's called, how it drives is more important.

You'll find that Mazda had been licensing the name from the bicycle mfr "Miyata" until now, and that they may be looking to phase it out with this latest gen model. BTW, true Miata-philes refer to their cars as NA, NB or now the NC, according to Mazda's internal designation.

isn't the miata like 3-400 pounds lighter than the solstice/sky with almost identical power?
Miata: 170 hp, 140 lb-ft, 2498 lbs.
Solstice: 177 hp, 166 lb-ft, 2860 lbs.

It'll be interesting to see a Mazdaspeed version. I wonder if they'll let a (my guestimate) ~215hp turbo Miata out run their flagship sportscar.
Of course, not many people cross shop a 4-seat sports car an 2 seater roadster.

Here's another review from miata.net. http://www.miata.net/news/ncfirst.html
[QUOTE=RainMeister,Jun 27, 2005, 07:33 AM]The new Miata (actually no longer called that) does look very promising. Closer in philosophy to the original, which I prefer and own to the second gen. I almost held out for the new third gen before getting my S2K. The difference in power and quality swayed me towards the S2K. Here's another write-up by a miata.net moderator:

I read a review on MSN that it uses premium gas to get the 170 hp. Was this accurate?
