E60 M5 walks E55 AMG Video.

The M5 has grown on me. It's not quite as ugly as some of the regular 5 series cars. Given that I would still go for the E55. Not even with software & pully upgrade. All you need are K&N filters & a tube change & you will be able to keep up with the M5. The E55 has one of the intake tubes smaller on one side than the other. There have been a few people over on the mbnz board that have dropped their 1/4 mile times a few tenths with just this minor modification.

That was much closer than the title implied, what was that, one car length? In the test that would most favor the M5? Not very impressive considering the Benz has been around for 2 years and has massive boost potential. Then again I'm not a drag racer so I don't really care either.

... The cars weren't designed for the sole purpose of accelerating in a straight line xD
The M5 being faster then the E55 stock is a simple 'cherry on top' compared to the other things it can do.
If people really cared about straightline acceleration for that price, then they would be buying Vipers and Z06s.

It isnt that hard to make a powerful engine when it displaces 5.5L and is supercharged. Shit the Koenigsegs 4.7L v8 puts out 806

Well since neither is going to be a tossable toy like the S2000* I would take the MB. It looks better. It may not be quite as fast but the torquey motor will be nice "around town" and the nicer interior will be nice all the time. While these cars may be very fast, neither are true sports cars. As neither is a true sports car I would pick one based on which car was a better luxury sedan (based on my limited exposure that would be the MB). For that matter I would buy the lower cost version of either and then get a really toy car (Lotus).
*I used to own a Contour SVT. A buddy of mine had a BMW 530 5spd. Even though his car posted similar numbers and was more comfortable I would always prefer mine in the twisties. Sometimes smaller and lighter is more fun than very sophisticated but bigger even when bigger is just as fast.

That was an indication of how fast both cars got to 5th gear. They started from a roll in 2nd and slammed to 5th instantly.
You can see in the lower right hand corner on the screen the gear indicator.
A couple more runs would've been nice though.
