Ducati 749? Anyone know much about it?
Anyone here have any time on the 749? I'm considering a trade right now for an 03 with low mileage. I'll be trading a 05 R6 with similar mileage..
Any opinions? Worth it? I only know maintenance will be more $$, but I don't ride that often, so won't be putting on massive mileage on it..

No mods. Stock red. 749.. not sure if its the 749S or not.. not even sure what the diff is.
I'm kinda partial on the look of it... not really feelin the front.. specially now with the 1098's out.

Never rode a duc, but I can tell you the difference between an regular and S model. It's the wheels, suspension, and maybe some body parts. Rest of the bike is pretty much the same.
I just heard from ducs that you have to upkeep the maintenance, valve clearance and some other stuff. Most of it I don't think a normal gearhead can do themself. I work on my 05 R6 and 01 R6 all the time, but that's just oil changes and carb syncs and brake lines. No engine work. But luckily for me, they don't require a lot of it until high mileage.
I'd swap if I could stomach the maintenance, but I hate paying someone to maintain stuff. And I don't think I could learn to do the maintenance myself. Or wait until the 1098 comes out, prices will drop for all ducs.

Hmmm.. good to know. I definitely love the R6 no doubt, but I just feel like I shouldn't be passing the deal up. If it turns out to be a money pit however, I might end up regretting it.
As far as the 1098's, that would be my ultimate dream machine And this 749 might have a better trade in value

i doubt it will turn into a money pit...especially if you do your own maintenance.
I've sat on the 749 and like the feel...never ridden it though.
however, i've logged a lot of miles on a 748 which I liked a lot. The Duc is going to feel totally different than your high revving R6...more tourque..totally different sound. handling is wonderful but the duc's usually end up at the bottom of most of the shootouts for various reasons.
i love the flat black 749...
that's all i can say i guess!
good luck

If you are not willing to maintain the bike yourself it will get very expensive. I had a 748 and spend 3,500 bucks over the course of 6 months on my Ducati just in maintenance. It was a fun ride, but the way I use a bike I wouldn't own another.

Maintenance isn't that bad. You can always find local Ducati certified mechanics who work out of their garage to do the service if you don't want to. Make sure the person you are buying the bike from has kept good records.
I've got a 748 that I really love. I prefer the 748's looks to the 749 but the Testastretta motor is definitely better.
