Drove an R32, brief impressions
Very hard to get the dealer to let me take one out, had to get my friend who is a salesperson at another division to take it out.
First as far as looks obviously the nicest, most aggressive looking gti of this generation, although i thought the 20th ae and 337 weren't too shabby. Blue painted calipers look tacky, like it was done in the driveway.
Interior, seats are incredible. Very audi like interior.
Exhaust note was raspy and quite nice for stock.
Engine had good pull throughout the range however seemed to strain a little up top.
Suspension, stiff/taut but very livable, much easier on a daily basis than an evo for instance.
A relatively heavy car, didnt like quick transitions but handles admirably compared to a lot of cars out there.
Overall a grown up evo that a mid 30's guy would not feel uncomfortable driving. If you want evo / sti speed though I dont think it will ever come cclose unless you are looking at the hpa turbo package.
Is it worth $$32K??That's for you to decide?

Just bought one as a daily driver.
Did a brief write-up on the cars I compared:
http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...25&pagenumber=2
I agree, the available torque is what makes this car feel faster than the S2000 (though it is not). The drivetrain is superb, brakes are exceptional, and yes the interior is Audi-esque. The exhaust on this thing actually has a vacuum actuator to open and close the diameter according the back-pressure needs. I gather it's functional, but it sure does sound amazing.
My significant dislikes: The shifter is a little wet-noodle compared to the S2000, and the American version R32 got softer suspension (though still very capable) and lost the HID's that the Euro version received.
This is a great car for someone looking to add, or if required replace, to the S2000.
Yes, the Evo and STi are faster, but these are really not in the same category. If either of those cars don't offend your sense of rice-bling-gawdiness, I would recommend getting one. Both are superb cars that show where there R & D money was spent (the drivetrain).
I feel as I ripen, I will happily give up a little raw performance for a couple of creature comforts.

I am guessing dolemike has a Evo or STI....
I agree that the R32 would probably be a great daily driver...N.A. torque is a good thing..... the Evo is bouncy as hell and you do have to wait on the turbo.......but around a race track the Evo (or STI) would probably destroy the R32.....but who cares.....that is only a few weekends a year at the most.
The factory turbo cars have the advantage of easily tuneable, etc....

the dealer near me won't let me take one out for a spin, they have 4 (black, blue, red and silver) sitting on the lot.
the seats and interior are nice. but they will have to do better than MSRP to make me stay longer ...

I also own a 20th GTI and the only complaint is the gearing sucks I can spank my S2000 thru 1st and 2nd but as soon and I mean as soon as I hit third gear it's all over S2K pulls so damm hard just like when I raced my other buddys RSX type S same exact thing. I think if they had better gearing it would a very close race.
