i do seek the truth and know that many cars go faster than the S. does that make them better in design and quality? im not surprised it's difficult to answer the questions i asked you. i have trouble answering them as well. blinders off and i continue to have an open mind to whatever you wish to share, even if you don't think i do.

I have to laugh at the millions of it's twins part. Now that my office moved 30 miles farther out of the city I never see a 911 but I still see 6 or 7 S2000s every commute.
I love the S2000 but my back doesn't anymore.
My S2000 had the best stock shifter of any car I've driven including the Porsches and Ferraris I've driven. The 964-997 have a much better steering feel than the S2000 IMHO. I have not driven the Cayman yet so I can't speak to that one.
The 997S is a blast on the track and in is incredibly well balanced compared to my old 911. to the guy who let me drive it having just met me.
I drove Porsches, BMWs,Audis, etc before I bought my S2000. I chose it because it was the most fun out of all of them at the time.

Good review. Glad you got a chance to give it a real drive.
I got rid of my S2k for a 997S last year. I'm surprised by a couple of your observations. The gearbox on the S2k is simply the best I've ever encountered. The shifter on the 911 is very, very good ... but it's not as good. I'm going to eventually get Porsche's short shift kit and see if it comes closer to the S2k.
In terms of steering feel, I'm amazed by your observation. This, in my opinion, is a place where nothing even comes close to the 911; especially not the S2k. If I had one criticism of the Honda it's that the steering was practically the definition of "numb". The 911 on the other hand is - and should be - notorious for the extreme levels of steering feel. It is so communicative that it took me a few weeks to get used to it after coming from the S2k.
