something that constantly sucks is that people on the s2k board speak so low of the S2000 when comparing it to other cars. i know the 911 is a great car, but it is a numb car compared to ours. some call it "refined" i call it numb. and that a gearbox from a 30k car out does one from a 80-100k car ought to be noted more often.

Gearbox.....smearbox.....it isn't like it is world's better. The 911 allows a driver to do all kinds of things he/she could not do with a S2000. Just because the feel of a gearbox is preferred by some folks, it does not mean one car is better than the other.

dyhppy - I've got nothing against you, but you constantly try to push the S2000 up and beyond its place by pulling some crazy thoughts out of left field. Most of your stuff if pretty creative and worth reading while some of the other stuff is just jibberish......not saying this post is jibberish - I'm speaking in general.

One advantage to the wider gearbox and longer throws is that you know exactly which gear the car is in. For eg, you won't make a 5-2 downshift by mistake in the 911. something that is quite possible in a S2000 or a NSX.

I think the CS is a awesome car IF you could get it well optioned for $75k - 80K.

Just like the guy you met, I'll open the car up for anyone who's interested or if I trust you enough I'll toss you my keys. I love to hear what others have to say about my car.
I'm on my way.

I'll wait until spring when hopefully mine will be up around 280hp and it will make it worthwhile for you to drive mine.

That's what a lot of us Porsche fans think. Boxster/Cayman S should be 325, and the 911 should get the S's 355hp engine, or ideally, the 380hp X51 engine. I'd just drop the 911 altogether, and have the 911S be the starting point for 911s, price and power-wise.
100%

Imagine a lineup like this :

Boxster S/Cayman S : 3.6 L w/ 325 hp
911 Carrera : 3.8L w/355 hp
911 Carrera S : 3.8L w/380 hp

As a former 911 owner it would make me want to get into another one, but right now I refuse to pay for a 325 hp engine (not to mention the difference in tq. from 3.6L to 3.8L).

As a previous C5 Z06 owner I have to point out that the Z06s are track monsters. Perhaps it may give off a 'muscle car' feeling in the turns but when at the track the grip just keeps coming...

And yes the tremec is truck like, but it takes a beating well.

With all vettes you can completely turn off traction control unless you have the auto with the Torque Management (c6).

Hey Fanman,

What are you driving now? IIRC you were looking for a NSX and had a bad experience.

Sorry for the sidebar.

Poindex, hope you read this. i do think highly of the s2000. the only things it lacks is "luxury" and supercar power. what can the 911 do that the s2000 cannot do (besides find a million of its twins after driving 2 city blocks)? what makes it so much better? just because it costs so much more? fyi, whenever i write, i do so from experience. ie: i cannot vouch for the f430 yet.
