i guess i stand corrected. i see very big rebates on cayenne's and z4's so i was under the impression that they were not selling well. also, i never see cayenne's or z4's.
my apologies.

Actually I don't think it's much different in CA. Apparently BMW has a $5k nationwide factory to dealer incentive on '03 Z4 3.0i's. I saw an ad in the SJ Mercury news for $5k off '03s. The original incentive was for 11/1/03-12/1/03 but it's possible that either a)BMW extended it or b)the dealers could have "punched" the cars 12/1 to get the incentive.
So $5k off should be just the starting point. I have heard of dealers who are offering $7500 off or more, which makes sense.
Hard to say if the car is a "bust" or not. Dealers here seem to have a lot of inventory, but apparently the car is selling okay. With the new model year coming in and winter coming on, it's not uncommon for rebates on cars like this for old stock. FTD incentives were common on the Z3 around this time of year too. Not this big, but then again the Z3 was ~$4k cheaper to begin with.
Reminds me of the experience I had buying my '99 Z3 Coupe in March '99. There was a $3k FTD incentive, they let me take a demo car home for the day, I came back and bought the car for $7k under MSRP with no bargaining. I guess you can say that was another car BMW couldn't sell because most people thought it was ugly Seriously though, as much fun as my new S2k is (and boy is it) the coupe is probably, on balance, the best car I ever have or will buy. So much so, I can't bear to sell it!
