Default Does the Civic Hybrid make financial sense?

Driving the same and setting all else equal. Does it make sense money-wise?

Like, a Civic Hybrid is more expensive than a gas Civic but it gets better mileage. So is it worth it?

At one point, however it probably takes more than a decade.

maintenance costs would certainly be higher...anyway it's not about saving money...it's more about a statement. and good for them but i'll continue to drive a nice looking car.

Well, I'm not comparing it to my S2000...Obviously my S is sexier than anything in the Civic range will ever be.

But how would the Civic Hybrid fare against the comparable gas only Civic?

Depends on how much you drive. But i remembered doing some calculations one time, and you have to drive *a lot* before it makes sense to take a Civic Hybrid over a Civic HX.

If you keep the car for 5 years and Km/year is about 20000Km:

Savings per year will be only 3% per year Vs. higher purchase price (+15%) and lower resale value at the end of year 5 (12-15%).

*No significant variance for insurance and maintenance costs.

Yeah, but a Civic HX doesn't have all the same features...

The one that's the most similar to the hybrid specswise is the Civic LX and even then, you still have to add the alloy wheels and spoiler.

From Honda's site:

Hybrid - $19,900
Advantages - automatic climate control, 4-wheel ABS

LX w/front airbags - starts at $15,860
add alloy wheels - $769
add deck lid spoiler - $259
Total - $16888
Advantages - 22 more HP, 3 more cu ft of cargo space (13 cu ft vs. 10 cu ft), folding rear seat

Difference: $3012

Note: this difference is in MSRP's. Where can I get good real-world prices?

I believe that the comparisons between HX and Hybrid are based on the great mpg of the HX which is much better than the LX. Besides the HX comes in the much preferred 2 door coupe version.

Yes. But the problem is that there is no comparable hybrid to compare to the HX

just remember that gas prices are going up, so it might take less than a decade...
