Oh, and before people say anything about drag racers having skills...
The faster drag cars don't really have normal manual transmissions. To my knowledge they're either automatic, or modified (straight cut or whatever?) so that they only have to jam the gears in...
Drag racing is all about "my shit is faster than your shit".

To some extent, yes, but if you don't have lighting fast R/T, can't launch, or can't handle mega-hp, you're going to suck or get hurt.
I tried dragging my old Supra TT, and admittedly wasn't very good in my 2 or 3 runs. I'm much better on a road course.
I didn't break a sweat dragging, though.

I had a 6spd myself and did drag it, but always knew that the car wasn't designed for that purpose it just happened to do pretty well at it.
I will say this though, the feel and handling of the S2000 > Supra.

Drag racers being athletes is going to be a hard argument. Drive an 11 second car, endure a couple crazy G launches, and your neck will start hurting.
Racing, whether Nascar or a NASA track day, will beat you up if you're not in good shape.
If someone doesn't think racing is hard, take them to an indoor karting place for a 10-15 minute session.
