Do they even make what I want? (newb ?)
Hey,
I am looking for a bike, but I dont know if they even make what I really want. What i am looking for is around a 400-500cc bike in the sportbike frame, not more so dirtbike. I have been looking around and it seems that if you want a bike with a 'sport frame' they start at around 600cc. Do they make what i am looking for? Or is trying to lose the 200cc's useless?
Thanks
PS - My riding experiece is about 4 hours on a 82 Yamaha 125cc Dirtbike.

All the cool small bikes are in Japan...the mfgs. learned that such bikes are great showroom dust collectors in the US, since there's no graduated licensing or other great incentive to get a small bike here. A Ninja 500 is prob. your best bet.

I'm 15 and I was wondering if I could maybe get a bike. You can ride bikes at 16, right? It seems that insurance would be horrendous. It would still be cool though. One of these bikes seems like it would be right for me. About how much do they cost? I know absolutely nothing about bikes except its not smart to race them in a car.

If 15 in Texas, you can ride a motorcycle but it must be under 250cc, then when 16 you can get whatever you desire. Bike laws did not change even thought car licenses when to a graduated system.

Another few questions, would a sport bike be ok for going to school and around town? The crouched riding position looks a bit uncomfortable to me. Also, are bikes common targets for thieves? I know a few people whose cars have been stolen from my school and I don't want that happening to my bike. Thanks, sorry about my idiot newbie questions. Agh, bike names are so confusing. They all seem like a big jumble of numbers and letters to me!
Edit: How reliable are bikes? Will I be able to get them serviced anywhere or do I have to go to a special bike place? Whoever said small bikes are hard to find in the U.S., you're right. I did find the Kawasaki Ninja 500R that someone suggested though. I also found a Ninja 250R, which at $2,999 MSRP, seems like a darn good deal for a bike. Btw, just wondering, these bikes don't have anything resembling a stereo, do they? Thanks.

G. VTEC, w/ all your questions, I'd advise you to check out sportbikes.net. TONS of info there, including a newbie forum where I'm sure most of your questions have already been answered.
My $.02 though, is that at your age I'd either learn to ride on the dirt or stick to the track. Gransport Speedway in LaMarque has frequent bike track days for very cheap (~$30-$35 IIRC).
