Default do dealerships still make money for selling a car for invoice?

just wondering......seems that they have to at least make something for selling a car at dealer invoice or under...

Yes, they do. Most of the manufacture have year end rebate and vehicle rebate. The vehicle rebates are what people know on the advertisement. (hey, if you don't ask, you won't get it). The year end rebate various between dealers. Some dealer get crap load of it for selling a lot of cars, and some don't.

Yup - it''s called a dealer holdback. See this article for detailed info. Honda specifically gives dealerships 3% (or $984) of the base MSRP ($32,800) on S2000s. So, selling at invoice still puts almost $1k in their pockets.

Well, after subtracting the costs of running a dealership (advertising, land lease, inventory cost, wages) does it still put $1K "in their pockets?" Seems unlikely.

Car dealerships make OK money from selling cars, but I believe the big money is in service. I recently saw an article that indicated that a well run service dept will cover a dealer's overhead. Would be interesting to know if that is accurate. They make money on lots of other stuff, too. Warranty sales, dealer add-ons, financing, etc.

But how do we know what invoice is?? I have seen numbers on the internet but can anyone verify the validity of them.

What is invoice on an MY04??
