when I bought my house I planned on epoxying my floor but the original owners painted the floor blue and its of course coming up all over and wore out. to epoxy id have to get up all the paint so more prep. I plan on redoing the floor later this year or next year for sure.

I know - I shamelessly stole it - great shot!

If you would prefer me to stop using it - just let me know.

Looks amazing Joey... but I think at that point I'd prefer just to hire someone to do it. Props for persistence though!

I did an acid etching concrete stain with an epoxy clear coat on top. It looked really good at first, but the epoxy clear coat just cannot take the abuse. It's like an automotive clear coat; durable, but scratches easily. I have to be very careful when rolling a floor jack around and I always place a piece of carpet or cardboard down when using jack stands to avoid scratches. It's been 9 months since I did it and it's just not worth it at this point. If I just used the garage only a car storage, I'd probably be satisfied.

I'm going to lay down VCT tile to replace the floor. Check out the flooring section on Garage Journal for you own research. You'll go nuts trying to decide what to do. I'm just glad I didn't blow a massive amount of money on my epoxy lesson (I did blow a lot of time though on the project).

Thanks for the tips Joey, looks like a PITA of a project but probably worth it.

Best mod I ever did!, well worth it. Clean up is super easy and just give the garage that "showroom" appeal if you know what I mean

I've thought about epoxy systems for general cleanliness but the thing that gives me pause is traction. We live in New England where wet cars or snow & ice clinging to the undercarriage are a reality. Concrete remains grippy even when wet. Won't epoxy or even paint turn the floor into a skating rink if you get it wet? Wouldn't want the wife to take a spill on a wet shiny smooth floor. I assume the flakes just add color and not friction. Is there an non-slip additive.
