DD/track car to replace S2000: BRZ or 996 or 987 or ???
Daily-driver and sometime track S2000 is getting on in years and miles (over 250k!), thinking about a replacement.
Requirements: rwd, relatively lightweight, fixed roof preferred, somewhat reliable as a daily and backup track car.
BRZ is the only new car on the radar. ~2750 lb. but only 205hp though (so jaded...), and F/R weight distribution is an unimpressive 54/46 and adding power would only make that worse...
Also considering 2wd Porsche 911 (996, maybe 997.1) or 987 Cayman. But what with IMS, cylinder scoring, D-chunk and a host of other potential issues, might not be worth the risk...
Let me know what experiences y'all have had with these as street/track cars. Or if there are other cars I should be considering.
Thanks!

What is your budget?

50-50 weight distribution?-- Chuck
The guy equating BRZ front weight bias with mid-engine cars' rear weight bias doesn't have a clue. Actually, nobody in that link seems to...

I had an FRS as a DD for about 6 months and ended up selling it. The motor feels lethargic and boring, especially compared to the lively F20. Fantastic chassis, but the motor really is lacking IMO.
C5 Z06 maybe? lol.

You should be able to buy an Evora around that price range.

It really depends on your propensity to spending on repairs and maintenance. Given you have something like a frankensteined fd leads me to believe you're not shy or sensitive to that notion so if go Porsche if I were you. I just bought an frs after owning a c5z and I've also owned 2 s2000s, and for mundane driving around town and such it is infinitely better, I've already out more miles on it in the last 1.5 months than I did my vette for a whole year including a track day.
If a miata was on your radar but you don't want a miata, the 86s fit the bill perfect.
The s2000 really is a compelling argument but frankly for Dr type work the 86 again is infinitely better, more room, more creature comforts, and it's short footprint makes zipping around town fun.
I did buy it though with the intention of moddingand was set to supercharge it, but now owning it and appreciating having a headache free car is making me second guess that. The lethargic engine is mostly due to the torque dip at 3k rpm, weird quirk, but a 500 open flash tablet will most likely take care of it, especially with a header which is what in thinking about doing.
btw engines are cheap, huge community, parts are cheap, cheap to run, easy to work on minus spark plugs.

IDK what some of these guys are doing with the NA FRS motors, but I have come across a couple that would pull me in the straights. I am thinking they take to bolt-ons and tunning quite well. Most have been running E85 FWIW

ZDan, get another S2000. You have a parts car and ALL that experience and knowledge already at hand.
