Default Custom Exhaust Piping

My friend was thinking of just getting a new muffler and going to a regular muffler/exhaust place and having them just make custom piping for the rest of the exhaust system. If he does this, isn't there a good chance he will lose power? Thats what I think. Let me know if I am correct. Thanks

it depends on what piping you get as well as if the piping is mandrel bent or crimp bent. If hes going to do a custom piping ( like i usually do) go with a 60mm or 65mm exhaust with a resonator unless he wants his exhaust to be stupid loud. this way you wont have a huge exhaust which will actually cause you less hp. i will get you a diagram asap with the explanation of all this. it shows how the exhaust flow in certain diameter piping can change the direction of the flow. let me know if that helps

For some reason i pictured Eze8199 sitting at his comp waiting for the reply in 6.5 years with cobwebs all over the place.

Then as soon as klsracing replied, he came back to life and smiled.

LOL

well i searched and this is what i find so might as well ride wit this thread for my noob questions instead of making a new one. anyway...

I already have a custom 63mm test pipe, custom 63mm single exit axle back (attached to a 76.2mm RS works muffler). everything is already custom except for the stock OEM resonator and the stock pipes connected to it (the pipe after the test pipe flange and before the custom axle back flange, which is about roughly 1.5 feet long.)

I'm planning on customizing the stock mid pipes and resonator also, replacing them wit a 63mm one, but here's the thing: how long should the resonator be to provide the optimal engine performance? would a 14 inch long resonator do the job? and also, would i benefit anything if the inlet diameter of the resonator is 70mm? or should i just go wit 63mm all the way?

Thanks guys

tell your friend exhaust has to be tuned, and sized properly to get power

you would figure going bigger is always better, NO it's not you need some exhaust scavenging
i'll use my civic as an example, i tried different ideas for my downpipe collector near the turbo, at first i just fabricated a metal bladder that picked up both the wastegate and exhaust outlet, a two piece with the waste gate and exhaust outlet totally separated (loud as hell too), and finally a flange with just a bubble for the wastegate going into the pipe at the flange

after a few dyno runs on each one i found the totaly seperate one was a waste of time and materials as was the bladder, as for the exhaust itself, 2 1/4 worked best to get it out, but also provide scavenging
