cross country radar
I'm going to be taking my s2k cross country in a few weeks. i want to know if you guys think its a good idea to have my radar detector in the car. don't want it to cause more trouble then its worth because I don't plan on driving to fast and don't know where its legal. any tips on where to mount it to keep it out of sight.

Get one. I have one of each car. I like the Escort Passport 9500ix. Has learn function, to take common false signals into account. And tells you your MPH, when it detects a radar signal.

I have a passport on my car. It saved me a couple of times. But if you don't speed there really isn't a point in owning one. Save that money for a nice hotel!

Of course you're speeding!
Come on! Have you ever driven 25 in a 25 mph zone? Didn't think so!
Traffic at highway speeds is ALWAYS exceeding the speed limit. Speed limit here is 70. Traffic is moving at 75 to 80. Valentine V1 should be issued with every S2000!
Even at 35 or 40 in a 25 the question for the cops is "Who ya gonna stop?" The alpha-hotel driving the "exotic" spots car or mom and pop in the sedan. Yep, the sports car is speeding.
Cluttering the dash with a V1 and a GPS uses a lot of room. I tried the Passport IQ GPS/radar detector. Save your money, it's second tier on al respects. The GPS is unreadable in daylight and the detector is, well lets say it's Passport not Valentine. I'm looking for a better mount for one if my three V1s.

I have a V1 with the bluetooth setup. I connect it to my phone mounted on a modify phone mount and I have Waze. With YAV1, you can overlay the whatever V1 is picking up over any app. Pretty clean and useful once you set it up.

Haven't used one in years (retired road warrior) but as I remember detectors are useless against "instant on" radar and lasers unless there is a lot of traffic and the cops are active with their devices.
Out on open roads the detectors only let you know you've been busted.
Someone here can probably update me on the technology on both sides but where I drive they are useless

I don't have one. Thought about it but never have pulled the trigger. I like road trips but I try to "not be that one".
I am not some perfect driver but I have managed to not get any tickets in decades. In towns and urban areas, just drive the speed limit (no more > 5 over only in familiar places) and do make complete stops. Once you get used to it, its no big deal. I find if I leave on time or before I really "need" to leave, I feel no desire to speed to get to my destination.
On the open road I never exceed 10 miles over the limit. Usually 7 mph over seems to be the upper limit unless you sense something. There are some places I know of here in CA that you can and I do wind it up in the 3 figures but that is infrequent.
If it is 1 in the morning, be on your best behavior, law enforcement is just looking for a reason to pull someone over. (obviously don't drink/use and drive) Translation: Don't stand out during those times when folks who are will be noticed.
Just kind of go with the flow of traffic. You will know those areas when you can be a bit more spirited.
If you do get pulled over:

You are asking for a ticket if you are speeding and there are no other cars around you.
