Yawn. I would've much rather them use all that engineering brainwork and figure out a manual for the Z06. But instead they decided to make yet another car that will be obsoleted once the Tesla Roadster drops. Sure, the Tesla won't sound as good, but neither will this compared to the Z06. GM just never learns.

Chevy does a push rod base C8, Z06, eRay, ZR1 and Zora
Mix in verts and targa coupes
That is a lot of opportunity for sports stars to get drunk and kill people on the road with one

I mean I think these upper models are cool, but name another period of time where the only sports (or sporty) cars offered by GM started at $75k or more. They turned their back on the average middle class enthusiast and its quite disheartening.

This is a good point. I love all these high-end models, but bring back the Camaro (it's gone after this model year) or even a new Solstice/Sky roadster or Cobalt-like SS model for cheaper, fun performance.

I think the DCT is very well done in my C8, but I do agree the car would be more fun to drive with a nice Tremec six-speed. Around town, it might as well be a Cadillac coupe floating around in silence and comfort. Any grandma could drive it easily (if they can get in/out of it )

That said, I do think the Corvette team was going for a sophisticated more cutting edge car with the C8 at a certain price point (don't forget it based just over $60k when it came out which is unreal for a mid-engine borderline supercar with a targa top, etc.), so they had to make concessions on things. Also, I've read (could be BS engineer talk) that fitting a manual was too complicated with the chassis/mid-engine configuration with the space constraints, etc. and even if they did, the geometry of the shifter linkage/cables would have made the shift action/feel not that good since it wouldn't have been able to be a direct connection.

I am sure it will be cool and all, and I like the Vette, but I can't pretend to be impressed. Last week I watched some video on the Z06 so I went to the configurator and built one. It came to $155,000. The similar models that came up in my area were over $175,000. You could pat GM on the back for coming up with the car, but seriously, any automaker can slap together a car that makes 1,000 HP and sell it for $250k. Is that an accomplishment these days? People do that in their back yards with turbo kits on just about anything.

The base model impresses me because it delivers a ton at a price maybe 10% of the public can afford. Cars that push $200k+ are pretty much vaporware to me. "I saw one at Cars and Coffee" or "I caught a glimpse of one on the freeway" kind of makes me yawn. If somebody builds some super horsepower machine for those with million dollar incomes, great, but hasn't that been done a thousand times now? For that kind of money I'd take a 911 with a manual, or I would much rather have the CT5 Blackwing with a stick. For all of the well over $200k this thing will cost, it will probably barely outrun a $65k Hyundai Ioniq 5 N in a quarter mile, and be a garage queen for a couple thousand people nationwide. And where I live, I have a hard time finding any space to let my dog-slow-by-comparison Cayman wind out a few gears.

It is part of the reason I get bored with all my car mag subscriptions because there is not much out there for the average person to have fun with and a ton of content on quarter million dollar vehicles, suv's and electrics. I wonder if we will ever have a 90's like sports car revival. Probably not but at some point people get tired of CUV's and some other niche will catch fire, and hopefully not in a Tesla at a charging station kind of way.
