Why do you think this?
Because $5800 is a lot of money to Tommy and he can't afford it or a Vette.

I think it sounds like a good idea. If they offered an all inclusive package (as someone previously mentioned), and maybe a lap around the test track... then I think it would be phenomenal.

I think it's cool.
Heck, I spent a few grand to travel to Japan and tour the Tochigi plant where our S2000s (well, some of them) were built - and I didn't even get to do anything there but watch!

The difference is that the Japanese don't let just anybody build cars. They don't want an engine you built becoming a statistic that tarnishes their reliability.

Yeah, it takes a very special person to build, say, Honda V6 auto transmissions. Or Toyota pedal assemblies, or V6 sludge-pumps. No dude off the street can build fail like that.

You can pick on The General for a lot of things, but SBC reliability, or heck, engine reliability in general, ain't one of them.

Do some of you actually think they just throw you on the assembly line with a bunch of engine parts and tools and say have at it, with no supervision or inspection?

I'm not sure if I'd personally sit there for SIX hours; 1 hour, fine; 2 hours, ok, maybe; 6 hours, they'd better use the paid money to hire very attractive female masseuse and personal concierge.
