I suppose there are some dumb Corvette owners but heck there are dumb Ferrari owners and even dumb S2000 owners. Some even like the stealth wing Honda put on some S2000s

It only costs $1k to build your engine, but then you have to pay the UAW for the worker you've displaced, plus insurance in case anything happens to you, and the final price becomes $6k.

What a great idea. Next, GM will have people pay them $50k a year to work on their assembly line. Soon this great idea will catch on in other industries...
For an extra $500, Midas will let you install your exhaust yourself. Pay an additional $200k and the home builders will let you build your own house while the union labor stands around and watches.
Pay an extra $1,000 and the cable company will let you lay the cable to your house... underground...in Winter. Make sure you're standing in front of your house so they can pick you up. They'll be there sometime between 8am and 6pm.

"Warranty? You assembled it, it broke, your problem. Oh the hell well!!"
This is stupid. Why would I want to assemble my own engine? I have no expertise. Specialization-- it's there for a reason.

lol at the people that think this is dumb, if you can afford a Zo6 or ZR1 you can afford the option which is totally cool in my opinion.
The target here are the guys for whom this is their fourth Corvette. They have a lot more money than time, but they will jump at the chance to do this. It's going to be really popular.
You know the Vette lovers are going to dig the chance to actually assemble their own engine right there in what they consider to be the holy grail of all factories.
If this were the Suburban or Cavalier line, it would be ridiculous. But we're talking ZR1s.

Great idea, but overpriced. I'd say $4,000 if included ALL costs necessary for the experience (air, meals, lodging, etc.). $6k just seems a little over the top, especially to not include air. If I had the money, I'd be all over it. Would be great fun, and a lot of learning I'd imagine.

this is dumber than gm selling camaro bodies without vin numbers or ANYTHING else for $7k. it'll cost more to build that camaro than if you had bought a new one. and now they charge YOU to build YOUR OWN engine.
