Default Corvette owners can build their own engines

Huh. I guess it would be something to be able to say, "and I assembled the engine right there in the plant."

While I'm too cheap to pay the $5800 for this option, I think it's cool that GM offers it. Also, if you read the article the cost isn't just for assembling the engine. I like that GM is offering some hands on experience for the future owners. I suspect if Honda offered the same thing for the S2000 many people would be quite enthusiastic (me included). It wouldn't surprise me if other brands follow GM's lead here.

I think it's cool.
Heck, I spent a few grand to travel to Japan and tour the Tochigi plant where our S2000s (well, some of them) were built - and I didn't even get to do anything there but watch!

I think it's cool. I wouldn't do it, but I know a bunch of older Vette guys who would jump all over the opportunity.

What you paid for was travel; big difference. Many a time, I had to pay thousands of dollars just to swim and walk for hours in foreign countries. Not that this build wouldn't be cool, especially for gear heads, but at $1000/hr of labor + airfare is a bit much, no?

I think it's pretty cool. Pricey, but they're holding up the line for you and they have to make sure you don't break anything.
