Agreed. The interior of the 996 is disgusting (but still a million times better than the Chevrolet). Anyway, the 996>C5. 993/964>any Corvette for me. The only way any Corvette will be more desirable for me is if its a steal ala a used Z06. At 35K I'd prefer it to a nice 996. Then again, I'd just spend another 7K and get a nice 996TT.
