Corvette C7 v Porsche 991 Carrera S

True, but look at the price tag on the 991 you just mentioned... I'd sure hope it's more refined if I'm paying that much more than I would for a C7. I think everyone agrees though the interior on the C7 is still light years beyond the previous generation corvettes which, to me, is why credit should be given to GM. I understand the 2 cars are comparable from a performance standpoint, but to me that's where the similarities end. If I was in the market for a C7 or the like, I would not be cross shopping it with a 991 due to the huge price difference.

I really like the 911, but there's no way in hell you can convince me that a Carrera S is worth $160k.

Maybe, but I bet there are a lot of guys like me who can't currently afford either one, but stopped aspiring to own a 911. When a 911 was a $60-80k car I could say "someday..." Now that even a lightly optioned one is nearing $120k, forget it. I'm not going to play in that arena. But a $65k Vette? Absolutely. Come to papa, and I'm a guy who traditionally never cared for them. Now I desperately want one.

It's called becoming old and grey...
just kidding
But yeah 160 for a 991 S, that's a lot of money that you could buy something else with. Yeah it's much nicer than the corvette, but how much nicer in terms of dollars? Obviously if you can afford one you'd likely get the 991 over the corvette but still...nice to dream

With the basic Porsche you're talking about an extra $40k for an extra 5%, for the S with options you're talking an extra $100k for an extra 7% over the Corvette. Those yellow seat belts in the Porsche? $500.
Porsches just aren't good value for money like a Corvette is, but compare them to Ferraris and you'll feel like you're getting a deal.

So if company A makes a product and company B makes a similar product for 2x as much we shouldn't compare it to product A? I don't follow. As a car enthusiast both the Corvette and 911 are on my radar. Maybe not new but I am definitely interested in seeing how they stack up. This comparo has been going on for decades. Cross shopping or not its an important comparison for both GM and Porsche.

People looking at the Porsche will not be cross shopping it with a C7. That being said, the past couple generations of the Corvette have been excellent value propositions if speed is a primary objective.
