Coolant Backing up

Coolant Backing up
Hi, although this is not on my s2000, i figured you guys would know or have an idea of what my problem is. This is all on my 1995 civic dx coupe 5 sped (my winter mobile) My coolant is backing up supposedly out of my overflow tank. The first thing i thought was the thermostat, so i replaced it with one from autozone, it was the most expensive on there ($14), but i'm still having the problem. The lower coolant hose doesnt get warm, only the top one. I can only drive about 30 minutes before my radiator is almost completely empty, after driving a bit after that, my temp will start to climb and the heat will stop working (blow completely cold air). Another thing i noticed, is when the car isn't being driven (just idleing) and the radiator is full, the car wont ever get to operating temp, and will stay cool ,and blow cold air on the inside, until i begin to drive it. If you have any idea of what this might be please help, the mechanics wanto keep it overnight to take a better look at it tomorrow, but id rather fix it myself and get my car back asap. thanks guys

Most likely a blown headgasket. The 92-95 Civic's are known for it. Coolant errosion eats away at the headgasket untill cylinder pressure enters the coolant jacket.
The piston rings may be damaged from running the engine hot, and from coolant entering the chamber.
