Is there a specific brand you use? Disposable or re-usable?
I bet this has nothing to do with the topic at hand but your exhaust.

I'm already deaf from audio systems so this really doesn't concern me.

8 hours @ 85 decibels = mandatory hearing protection and yearly check ups with the doctor according to OSHA. Wind deflectors are magic in terms of making the cabin more quiet, though.

Straight from the "No Shit, Sherlock" department! Did somebody actually pay for this study? What a waste of money.

You should ride with me w/o a helmet on, you'd be surprised at how little noise it actually makes.... rpm depending

I keep a pair of ear plugs in the car. The part about emergency vehicles is ridiculous. I am a fireman and can tell you that nobody hears emergency vehicles. I guarantee you I can hear a siren better with the top down and plugs in than 99% of people in closed cabin cars. Between the sound deadening, engine noise, cell phones, radio, and screaming kids, most people miss the siren and freaking train horn we have in the bumper until you are 3 feet behind them. And even then alot don't notice for several seconds.
God that's the complete opposite for me. I hear and and sit there perplexed thinking "where the hell is that siren coming from?!" then several minutes later the truck goes flying through the intersection.

How the hell do people not hear that shit?!

+1 on earplugs.

On long drives I've worn either earplugs or earbuds (for music) under these:

It's quieter than a Lexus

>>Nissan’s 350Z produced the loudest peak sound, reaching 104 dB at 75 m.p.h. Exposure to such a loud sound source should be limited to six minutes, the agency said.

I drive 80mph in my '05 350z for no less than thirty minutes on my commute to and from work. Guess I'm screwed.

I always thought the Z was more quiet than the S top down, guess I'm def.

WHAT???
