Comparison - gtr/911/lotus/evo/sti/r8

GTR rocks! It DOES live up to the hype. The Evo X is the hidden dragon. They commented that had the Evo had a more power, it probably would have beat the R8. Only a few bolt ons away I say.

The R8 was surprisingly close the GTR in terms of the times. Considering that the R8 was on regular road tyres that's pretty impressive ... with the same tyres as the GTR it might have even been quicker. Never would have guessed.

But I agree - good showing from the R8 - shows what a fantastic chassis it has. If the V10 version doesn't increase the weight too much or throw off the weight distribution, it's going to be killer. Though for 150K+ it really should.

The GT-R is also on regular street tires.
Those are far from 'regular street tyres'. Yes, they are OE equipment, but so are Pilot Sports Cup on a GT3 ... and they're also far from 'regular street tyres'.
STi's fitted with those tyres are a lot quicker then ones fitter with the best of the best street tyres like ContiSport2, PilotSport2 etc.

The STI RE070 tires are not that great. ContiSport2 and Pilot Sport 2 are not the best street tires, either. Advan Neovas and Bridgestone RE01R are probably the best performing street tires (excluding R-compound tires). Check the results of SCCA Solo II street tire class.

I've got fair bit of experience with RE070s and on the track they enable a car to lap noticably quicker than CS2 / PS2 / S02s. Most people here use the RE070s as a streetable track tyre. Also the mags here also treat the RE070s the same way they do Pilot Sports Cup and P-Zero Corsa ... ie. streetable track tyre.
We don't get RE01Rs here (but I've heard good things about them), and I'm not familiar with Advan Neovas ... thought I've had a set of Advan V107s which were awasome (grip wise) ... but I'd say comparable with CS2s (going just by the feel). Lasted me only about 9000km (ie. ~6000miles) so not long at all.

I wouldn't put the RE070 into the category of streetable track tire. I've also tracked them and they were inferior to the Yokohama A046 that came stock on my Evo, and far inferior to the Toyo RA-1's I run now.
