LE MANS
Directed by Lee H. Katzin
108 minutes
$19.95 DVD
homevideo.paramount/index.htm
The story's well known: American Michael Delaney (Steve McQueen) driving a Porsche and German pilot Erich Stahler (Siegfried Rauch) in a Ferrari battle it out at Le Mans in 1970. Many fans call the 1971 movie about the world's most famous endurance race the best racing film ever, and it's now available on DVD.
Don't look for any behind-the-scenes interviews or documentation on how Le Mans was made. For that, you'll need to read Michael Keyser and Jonathan Williams' book, A French Kiss With Death, Steve McQueen and the Making of Le Mans.
This DVD, presented in wide-screen format, is what you would have seen in a movie theater in 1971. The sound has been remastered in Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround. Le Mans is still worth watching, and to hear the 917s and 512s in full Surround Sound blasting down the Mulsanne Straight is worth $19.95

This is a must buy.
While were talking about never being satisfied. When, if ever, do you think will see more FIA F1 season reviews on DVD?
The 2000 F1 DVD is amazing....probably the best bang for the buck F1 related purchase I've ever made....but alas, there are no more and I think it's doubtful we see any for awhile due to Bernie's digital PPV folding.
