Thanks Boiler, there is a Superformance dealer about an hour away. I'll have to check them out.

One of the other good replicas is Factory Five (www.factoryfive.com). They build their cars to SCCA race specs, plus they have the 65 Coupe kit; I love that thing. They build it to use whatever engine you want (289, 302, or 351w). kits are about $15K, and you need a 5.0 donar car (probably under $5K). They have lots of upgrades, suspension kits, etc.

Isn't that funny. I saw one yesterday during the lunch rush in west la and pulled all sorts of maneuvers to keep it in sight.

I took the Racing Adventures school; they use Factory Five Cobras. I
got to do many laps around the Summit Point Jefferson Circuit. They
are fast and sound great. However the FFR had a bit of chassis flex
and wheel hop. I would not want to hit anything in one.

On balance the S2000 is a better choice. Better handling, MUCH quilter, more room, a real top and you might survive a crash in an
S2000

Check out http://www.uniquemotorcars.com/ for another quality Cobra builder. The red car in the picture may be the car my friend has for sale.

i think the cobras are another one of those things that sound neat on paper, but....building one would be a nightmare and attempting to sell one would be a worse nightmare (financially).

Pay $80k for a decent one (not a factory five version), then sell it for $50k maybe.

or half build one and sell the parts for 1/8 of what you have in it.

or build a factory five for 400+ hours, $20k, then drive it for a year and sell it for $15k...

I am exaggerating, but there is no real market for used kitcars...hell there is barely a market for new kitcars.... i don't even see how birkin, lotus, etc.... stay in business with as few Super 7's as there are.

Scot, the Superformance cars are absolutely complete except for the engine and transmission. It's finished inside and out, wheels and tires, motor mounts, just drop the engine and transmission in and away you go. This is how they are getting around the emission and crash tests. Most of the ones around here are running bored 351 (383ci) Cleveland Ford engines for about 450 HP. I talked at length with the fellow that was building the engines, locally.

Even more of a sunny day only car than the S2000, and I'm still not 100% sure I like the retro look, but they *are* very cool and extremely fast.

The factory five spec racer and the factory five Daytona Coupe replica both keep catching my eye...

They also have a new replica out...

Make sure you get a high quality car with 4 wheel discs and good suspension. I've driven a couple kits that weren't set up for anything but boulevard cruising and drag-racing. terrifying at speed: floaty feeling, vague steering, and really sh**ty brakes.
Definitely a rush though.
