Chevy SSR finally has got some cahones
So C&D had a test of the new SSR
essentially the same engine as the C6 and the GTO but only 390hp and 405-TQ
0-60 5.5sec
1/4 mile 14.1sec@100 mph
<thats close to as fast as a S2000 and it's got 2000 lbs more weight than the S2000.>
The old SSR <sad if you own one > did 7.0sec 0-60 and 15.4@89mph and took 20.1 seconds to wheese up to 100mph.
Still not worth $43K in my book, but IMO it's a very nice street rod. Wouldn't mind owning one some day just to cruise and burn rubber...

I think they'd sell more at $30K, rather than $43K.

This is a very nice looking car ie it doesn't look like every other car on the road. It's fenders are pressed in one piece of metal (each) so it reminds me of a car from the 50s.
I believe 20 or more years from now it'll be looked on as unique car while thunderbirds or corvettes or GTOs will be looked on as typical (ie boring) designs. IMO.
Yes it's expensive and no I probably wouldn't buy one. But IMO it will get the looks and now it's got enough power for a 4700 lb truck and then some.

Hey its, better looking than a Z4!
Chevy has an odd marketing strategy - release cars like the GTO and SSR with weak engines and high stickers, then wait a year for the buzz to completely die out before coming out with a real product package.
0-60 aside, you'll feel that extra ton of weight in the first corner.

Chevy dealers hate the SSR'S. NOBODY wants them even the newer ones. I worked at a GM dealer for close to a year and we had two of them on the lot and we tried everything to get rid of them they wouldn't even sell at auction. As soon as we got the 390horse version we shipped it off to auction immediately and had no luck. Red herrings.
