Checked out a Boxster today
I finally took the S into Honda today to have the spark plug recall taken care of and the window regulator is now on order. Anyway, while I was waiting I stopped by the Lexus dealer to check out an 01 Boxster. I didn't use to care for them but their looks have grown on me. It had ~58,000 miles on it and was really clean. The exterior and interior were perfect except for the floor mats. So I got in and shifted through the gears while just sitting there (not driving). That was enough for me never to look at a Boxster again. It reminded me of my first car, a 62 Corvair! It must have been 6+" between gears. The slop in each gear was about the same as a 1-2 shift in the S. So I got out and shut the door and it sounded like it was going to fall apart! The salesman was pushing hard for me to drive it, but I said no thanks it just doesn't compare to my S2000. The salesman just said "you have an S2000?" NICE!

Same impression for me when i was in the Lotus Elise. It felt like crap. If my S2000 stays as unreliable/unlucky as it is right now im going to get rid of it for a used NSX. Its been one headache after another. Sometimes i feel like it's cursed.

I used to own a MY97 Boxster, and now I own a Comptech SC'd MY02 AP1. The S2K is better in almost every respect except one: the Boxster had a silky smooth engine. To this day, I haven't driven a sub $100K car that compares to the sound and feeling of a flat 6 mated to a Porsche exhaust system. From 3,000 to 6,000 rpm the engine and exhaust sound like sweet music to your ears. It's much better than the whiny sound of the S2K engine... although some may prefer that (analogous to a F1 engine).
