Cheap fun ideas

An FI Miata can be quite a bit faster than a stock S2000. The NA/NB engines were engineered w/ boost in mind, and the Miata has a huge weight advantage over the S2000.

I'm starting to find myself interested in a turboed miata, how expensive can this be? I mean it still needs to be tuned so it can't be THAT cheap right?

Turbo'd Miata's can be just as expensive as other turbo kit'd cars, however there are some really great kits out there that get the job done at a low cost. Since the miata is so low weight it doesn't need to make huge amounts of power. Therefore a smaller turbo, intercoolers, injectors, etc. are all more affordable than say turboing an S2K.
Flying miata has a full complete bolt on turbo kit that'll give you 160 whp (which is fast in a miata) for $3,400 and it comes with EVERYTHING you could possible need and is top notch quality and customer service.
For Cheaper options, Bell Engineering has kits you can put together starting at $1,800 with a little lower power.
My Greddy kit doesn't require engine management or Injectors/Intercooler because it is only running 5 psi and the miat's were designed with boost in mind. It should make 130 whp and in a car that weighs 2,100 lbs at most (mine is a 90' with power nothing and is the lightest possible miata) it feels peppy and quick.
Combine any sort of boost with a good suspension and tires and you'll be amazed the confidence you feel in a miata. It is just fun.
