Another C5 Z06 vote (and prior owner) here. Insurance is indeed less than the S2K. Die myth, die! Powertrain is near bulletproof.
If you are not racing then tire costs can be managed with proper choices. I'm thinking of Kumho's dry performance line. As a side benefit you'll gain much more traction than OEM F1-SC's in the wet.

The BB6 is actually not a bad car when you don't have a choice. All told, it's been pretty reliable and not actually that slow. It's getting a little bit long in the tooth at this point, however. Still looks sexy from the outside.
