Channel surfing through the Detroit Gran Prix this weekend.
Don't really watch auto racing but was bored and tuned in just in time to watch the GM driver crash the ZR1 pace car into the wall exiting the pit. I bet that guy never hears the end of it. He will probably get a life sized framed picture of it when he retires. I think he was an engineer on the ZR1 project.

It was like watching a Mustang leave a Cars and Coffee.

Gotta be humiliating! Wow. Funny, though!

I loved the comment beneath the video: "Former Mustang driver".

kinda like bababooey's crap ceremonial first pitch a few years back...just embarrassing.
I gotta wonder if they let him drive with all the control's off. bad idea for a celebrity driver.

Apparently there is quite a big bump mid-corner (Will Power mentioned that it's easy to spin there). The driver is actually fairly experienced - it was just "one of those things". Tires probably weren't that warmed up, either.
Remember, to keep ahead of an IndyCar pack and get them warmed up, you have to be driving very quickly in a street car. Pacecars are really pushing the performance envelope!

Then perhaps pace car drivers should be race car drivers, and not employees of the company that supplies/sells the pace car.

Reuss was behind the wheel of the 2019 Corvette ZR1, leading the cars around the Belle Isle road course ahead of Sunday’s second round of the Detroit Grand Prix. It’s not his first rodeo; he’s been driving the pace car for the Detroit GP for years.
I can't find the source but supposedly, all the nannies were still on AND he's done HPDE before. You can see the rear end of the car get light as he makes that corner and then, lights out.

This crash likely occurred because GM failed to properly set the rear caster from the factory, just as they did on the C7Z. He was counter steering a little, but it didn't look like he even let off the throttle. Is there better footage of this somewhere?
