I took the Accord V6 to the dealer for oil change and they recommended me to change the battery (@ ~42,000 miles)

i figure out i should be able to do it by myself in 10min.

but which brand of battery to go with? i just need a reliable and reasonably priced one

Did they recommend you change the batter for a specific reason other than the milage? As in, are you actually having problems with the battery?

I have a 98' Accord V6 with about the same miles, mid 40's, and some service station told me I should change my battery also, but I think they were saying it mostly because they wanted to sell me a battery. It's been about a year now, and there's 0 sign of any battery problems. Tiny little bit of corrosion and that's it.

The OEM battery in my Accord is a maintanance free battery. There should be an indicator as to if the battery is still good or not, if it's good, then keep it, only replace it if it actually needs to be. Otherwise I think it's just wasted money.

Aside from that, I can't actually recommend a specific battery, other than to say, you should probably get another one that's maintanance free as well.

The Sears DieHard and InterState are two of the better ones in my experience. However, although replacing the battery is a 10-min procedure, you have to dispose of the old battery properly and not just dump it in the trash. So before you even buy a new battery, first find a way to recycle your old battery.

Having said all that, I found the OEM battery in my Accord LX lasted well over 70K miles (mostly freeway miles though).

From what I have experienced, every place that sells automotive batteries will take the old one. Most places actually add a core charge that they refund to you when you return the old battery. The lead in the old battery has value. DON"T just throw the old battery away. It is a toxic mess --- battery acid, lead ...

I found that Costo carries Optima Red Top batteries for cheap. You could go there and get one if you're a member. The only thing is, you need to buy 50 of them!

My 2000 Accord V6's battery just quit 2 weeks ago without the slightest bit of a hint that it was going dead. It had about 50,000 miles on it but you really can't go by mileage alone.

Some of the big factors are your climate, alternator condition, and how long you drive your car after start up.

Changing the battery is super easy though, just one wrench and 10 min time and your done. Any auto parts store will take the old battery, just as said before, they actually want it.

My wife has a '99 Toyota Solara, with 98000 miles on it. Purchased 10/1998 and still has the OEM battery. Don't just change it based on age or mileage.
