The F4i was a great first bike for me. Not too intimidating, very good handling (although not as flickable as say an R6), and great ergos for street / commuting use. With the imminent release of the 600RR, it can be had for a substantial discount....

Great bike, but the wors out of the big 4 to work on. Honda just wants you to bring it to the dealer more so than the others. Also the F4i requires the most specialty tools to work on in comparison to Kawi, Suz, and Yam.

For a street guy the maintenance issue is moot (how often does the average street rider dig into the bike?), but
I disagree with ms750. Over the last several years I've raced a 900RR, an F4 and now an F4i. All 3 bikes have been pretty easy to prep and maintain. Certainly no more difficult that the GSX-Rs a friend of mine has raced.
I own 3 unusual tools for my F4i. You don't need 2 of them if you're not removing the swingarm. I've pulled motors, heads, cams, tranny, swingarms, front ends...you name it. No problem with a normal set of sockets,T-handled hexes and a torque wrench.
