Just awful to read this.

How much is the car worth without an engine?

It sounds like you are at 15K minimum to get any engine in there. I would think hard on selling the car as is and move on.

Sucks. Good luck.

Gonna be interesting to see which ends up being the best economic option for selling.
- Part out and sell as a rolling shell
- Replace with used motor and sell with mismatched motor/chassis VIN#s

Who checks mismatch motor/chassis VIN’s on a later model Porsche? I bet almost no one.

sucks Wolfpack.

wow that is a ton of metal. When my S2000 puked the main bearings it looked really bad too, almost as bad as that with the metal shards being smaller in size.

I'm heavily leaning towards selling it as a roller with the broken engine. Might even have an interested party at this time.

My current thoughts (and anyone is welcome to criticize/tell me I'm way off here). is that I can off load it with all aftermarket modifications and spare set of OEM wheels for around $14,000. Alternately, I can remove all my pricey suspension modifications and the deep oil sump and offer the car for around $12,000 and sell everything else separate (big ticket items being the Ohlins coilovers and the spare set of OEM wheels).

I'm not in a hurry to make a move at this point (unless something amazing fell into my lap). Most likely, I'll be out of the sports car (& HPDE) world for at least a year. Of course, I'm also considering moving out west, and if I did vehicle priorities would change. So it remains to be seen.

Personally, I like having cash in hand so I have options.

If you have an interested party for a reasonable price as is, I'd let it go. Could you squeeze out a few bucks selling some parts, maybe. But then you don't have to fiddle with taking stuff off. Holding on to it costs money as well i.e. taxes and insurance.

If you have a buyer to sell to as is for $14k to take it off of your hands now, I would likely go that route (if i was in your shoes).

It's a question of how much is your time and labor worth to you?
- Return to stock - 2 weekends - sell $12K
- Sell DFVs - $2000 used?
- Sell wheels - $2000?
- Oil sump - $500-$1000?

A lot of extra effort for an extra $3K? And a lot of extra time finding buyers.

I would offload it as is and have the $14k cash on hand.
