No one has any feedback on any bmw?? I thought the g35 had a pretty nice feel as well. Any more porsche experiences?

I'm hoping that my next car feels better or as good as the s2000 which is why in asking these questions. Thanks everyone so far for the feedbacks
The ones I drove had decent shifting. I'm most familiar with the 5spd they were using in the 530 about 10 years back. It was easy to shift but didn't have a firm feel. Like shifting a good box through a rubber band. It also later developed a really lousy flaw. The centering spring plunger stopped working so the stick would no longer self center between 3-4 and 5-R. That made it much harder to shift as I have always relied on the sticks self centering to get between ranges.
I have also experienced that self-centering problem with my wife's '03 325ix. Row through the gears a few times and it fixes itself. The shifting is a pretty smooth affair, but the throws are so long compared to the S. I guess the S spoils you with the short throws and feedback on engagement.

The c6 grand sport I drove recently was a 6sp which shifted quite smoothly and precisely. It didn't feel as connected as the S, a little more isolated from the mechanical bits.

I did miss a downshift to 3rd gear one time on the track in the S and it could have caused some serious damage with the car on my tail. I'm not sure of it was me or the gear box balking (most likely me).

So far it seems to me that I probably won't find any car transmission that I'd like better than the s2000..
S2000 is an amazing car

My RSX-S was very very smooth. I would say it is smoother than the S2000 but not as direct feeling.

I loved the gearbox in my RSX-S.
Really? That's one of the reasons why I got rid of mine for the S. It only had 40k on it, but the shifter felt sloppy and I had to be super careful with 2nd gear, otherwise it'd grind.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones, mine didn't have the second gear grind. My transmission was very smooth.

I can only assume that the PO had beat on her

I had to pull it hard to the left when going into second to avoid a crunch. I did, however, like the ability to throw the shifter into gear with the weighted knob i had. The S basically clicks into position.

Buyers would be selecting manual transmissions more often if they were like the S2000. One of the hallmarks of this car is the gearbox IMO. Between the precision feel and easy clutch, the S2000 is as fine as a manual transmission implementation has ever been.

For sure it is the benchmark of any manual transmission that came after it.

None that I have driven are as good as the S2000's shifter/clutch combo. The RX-8 is very good but not as precise. The 97-01 Preludes have very smooth shifters as well.

The most forgettable shifting experiences I have had are with an 2005 350Z, and a 2011 Genesis 2.0T

I think one think you'll find common: lower-powered cars have better transmissions because they can be made lighter AND they have less mass to move around. A Corvette will never have a light-feeling transmission because it has a ton of torque to deal with. A Miata, on the other hand, will probably always have a great gearbox because it has so little torque to deal with.

S2000 gearbox still the best. My 996TT's throws are long and sloppy compared to a S2k.

Yes and no. I think you are right but I don't think that is the critical bit. The shifter in the F-Body Camaro was really good. Nice click feel. It wasn't super short but neither was it all that long. The nearly identical box in the Corvette wasn't that great. The difference was presumably the linkage. I suspect Honda does a better job of getting the friction and slop out of the system. I mean I was amazed at how much better my friend's old Grand Am felt once we replaced the shifter cable. No changes to the box but it was night and day in terms of shift quality. This and some of the other experiences I've have lead me to believe that what's outside the box is at least as important as what's inside when it comes to shift quality.

E46 gearbox was mediocre and up until recently only the newer caymen's and 911's had decent gearboxes. The newer boxster that shares most drive train components with the caymen should, of course, feel good now as well. The original ones left a lot to desire.
I have to respectfully disagree. The NSX gearbox isn't as good as the S2000's.

If it counts for anything, I think PDK gearboxes from Porsche are on-par as far as fun factor goes. But nothing else comes close to the S2000.
