My cousin has a Matrix and it's been a great car for him; very reliable and spacious as stated above.

Did people not crash cars 20 yrs ago and live? I don't remember older hondas immediately bursting into flames in an accident..? On a more serious note, older cars are perfectly fine. Some of the early 90's model honda's lacked side impact beams, and they don't have airbags that'll pop out of every crevice and cushion your ballsack in an impact but they're hardly deathtraps.

Some choices for under $5K:
- Volvo V70/S60 (watch out for 98-01, they are notorious for auto tranny issues, get a manual and it'll be solid)
- Corolla (as stated above)
- Sentra
- 3-series BMW
- Focus
- Miata
- newer maxima (00-03)...
- lexus GS300/LS400/ES300

Avoid:
- CRXs... they are awesome, but will be stolen roughly 6hrs after buying
- Civics... see above (see This link)
- Accord... see above x 10. (see This link)

Just throwing this out there, I bought a 2005 civic lx 4dr with about 30k miles in 2011 for $6,000. The reason it was so cheap was because it had a salvage title, I paid 6g's repaired & inspected. The car presently has about 100k miles and all I've done was tires and oil. And no one steals those civics, their ugly. Moral of the story, look into salvage cars, you'll be able to get something newer and with less miles.

You should watch how early 90's vehicles crash against modern cars. I wouldn't drive in one regularly.

Yeah 20+ years is probably a no go. He drives a 95 now I think he would prefer to get in something newer not older. A couple things have popped up worth checking out including a 2002 Corolla, An Hyundai Elantra, and the Subaru. Going to meet with him this weekend and see what his priorities are.

Sebring AP1,

Feel free to PM me about the vibe. My parents are strictly anti-domestic, but seeing how it is a Toyota underneath I could probably convince them.

Mercedes 190e. Almost always in perfect condition, extremely reliable, very nice amenities, very classy despite the age.

2400 dollars, for reference. I was looking into cheap DD's lately

You can find them even cheaper than that. Saw a few for $1000-$1500, running condition.

Downside for me, Carbed. I don't ever wanna have to deal with a carb ever again.
