Miata. Both of those cars are... yeah. If you're going to get a stang, get a v8, you may be able to get one in your price range too, but even then I'm not a huge fan of that gen. The eclipse... imo they didn't make a proper eclipse since 1999.

Hell, since you're going to school, just buy something that gives considerable gas mileage and nice reliability. I'll say buy a Honda Civic hatchback, but I'm not too sure where exactly your priorities are with the vehicle you purchase.
Good luck to you, though.

i'd love to get a V8 stang, but gas here is really expensive,
in my country 95 octane gas is for like 16c a liter
i'v been told that Honda's get stolen alooot in San Diego, that is why i didnt mention a Honda.

27 mpg even if you get on it quite a bit with city/highway driving.
very reliable and easy to work on
And its much closer to an S2k than a 90s mustang or any eclipse
Cheap tires if you want them
For 5000$ you can find a needs nothing 94-97 Miata.
But I recommend you spend 3500$ on it and save the 1.5k for maintenance
Just have to get over the stigma

I had a Contour SVT at the time I test drove the Eclipse V6... I strongly preferred the Ford.
I never liked driving the Fox body Mustangs. I tolerated them with the V8 because I liked the drive train. The old V6 does nothing for me. I wouldn't do it.
What about a MP3 Protege? If you could find one for that price the Focus SVT is a great car. The non-SVT models with the Mazda motor aren't bad either and the SVT suspension was supposed to be a cheap upgrade.
