I've got more than one pair of red nomex racing shoes / boots much like he was wearing. I also have a red nomex driving suit. If you ever do any serious racing you will find that they are required and are available in several colors. Even in serious autocrossing many of the top drivers wear these shoes because of the added feel and yes, comfort.
