First, you are wrong - they do not make negligible torque - it is around 280-300 pounds of twist.
Second, they are very light
Third, they have incredible gearing and sticky tires so the energy transfer is high
Fourth, they have incredible RPM, so the power is distributed over a very wide range. It is a question of rate of work.

I will certainly agree that the rate of work of an F1 car exceeds that of a truck. But an F1 car could not pull a trailer.

Gearing and HP determine the rate of work.

Exactly. (Well, technically, horsepower is the rate of work, but we'll let that one go. ) The statement that I was disagreeing with earlier was:
Torque accelerates cars, not HP. HP is about top speed.
Your statement ("HP determines the rate of work") is correct, and contradicts your other assertion, "torque accelerates cars, not HP; HP is about top speed"), which is not.

The S2000 is a very good demonstration of this fact; it manages good acceleration despite only producing middling torque.
