Car and Driver picks Lotus over S2K
Recently read an article comparing cars and the Elise beats out the S2K by a hair. 0-60 in 4.4 seconds I beleive. (Don't quote me on that)
But where the S2K lost out is most drivers said too much over steer.
I have an X-brace and larger rubber shoes and tine CS coil-overs and still have too much over steer, would like to cut out some of the over steer, but not all of it. Does anyone know the formula that works for this? Any suggestions?
I guess the Lotus does real good in lateral G's don't weigh much more than a go-cart. It has a 1.8 liter toyota motor sideways in the rear. I think it is the same as the Celica has. But I don't think it can touch the S all around street and track! IMO Less over steer would definitely put the S on top. Car and Driver ran them on the Beav track. Is that the one we are running on for Fall Colors? That's all I remember about the artical. What's your thoughts?

For a daily driver the S2000 wins with me hands down. For fun to drive and a track car I'd take the Elise every time over the bigger S2000. If the Elise had been available when I bought my S2000 in 99 it would have been my first choice by far.

I didn't buy my s2000 to be comfortable. I bought it because its a fun car to drive.

these are two different cars, roadsers, convertibles....sure and sports cars. one is 30k and one is more than 40k. one is a car you can drive every day and track and one is a car you can track and is lousy as an every day driver.
one is made of plastic and held together with space age glue and one is made of metal. one has a power top and one....you see my point, they are different cars altogether.
i would compare the s to a Z4 or boxster, which costs 10's of thousands more before i would compare it to a lotus.
in the end the lotus should be a better performer except in daly like. oh...for the most part it is british build quality, what does that tell you?
just because a magazine compares them does not mean it is a fair or resonable comparrision.

I read that if it was the one that compared the S vs. Lotus vs. Mazda speed miata vs. 7 vs. kit car...
Lotus only won by couple of points and it did that by more of their personal preference... I don't think it was that much more by performance.
I would like to check it out, the elise. it's so light.

Magazine skidpad numbers are pretty meaningless since the first thing anyone serious about performance does after purchasing a car is align it. Even simple alignment changes can make a big difference in the way a car handles and grips; the '04's factory alignment apparently has very little front camber.

A bigger front swaybar should reduce alittle bit of oversteer in the S2000. Coilovers & an X-brace should improve handling alittle but they aren't going to do much in improving oversteer. Look into the Saner front swaybar if your not happy w/ the stock S2000's handling.
