Too bad I haven't taken any car pics since getting it. Here's a pic of Times Square and the Mirage at Vegas when I was at SEMA last yr.

So are the lenses on a 300D and Nikon D70 interchangeable?
Canon and Nikon SLR's use completely different lenses.
Some third party manufacturers, like Sigma, Tamron, etc. will make the same lens with different mounts. Not user swappable, but built for one or the other camera at their factory.

This is what's known as a 100% crop. A segment of a much larger image, at 100% magnification, typically used to check out sharpness of a camera/lens... Not as sharp as it could be, as I was shooting at 800 ASA, which introduces some noise in digital cameras. Lowest noise is at 100 ASA.

Try taking some live-action racing shots or other sports shots with a point-and-shoot and the omni-present shutter lag and lack of longer telephoto lenses will become an obvious shortcoming.
Try some fine-art shots and the lack of controllable depth-of-field and exposure flexibility will be a hinderance.
Print to 8x10 or 11x14 and the lack of resolution and higher noise levels of a less expensive camera will be much more obvious.
But compact P&S digitals definitely are useful. I carry one on most of my motorcycle trips, where the DSLR would be way to large and heavy. It takes beautiful snapshots.

Digital SLR's are worth every penny, I have the Nikon D100 with some of the CPU VR len's and my pictures come out more consistant then with my old nikon 35mm or my buddies S100. (35 version of the D100).
The 300D is a good starter camera if you want to get into the SLR world, but I suggest the Nikon, the D70 or if you can swing it the D100. Much better camera much more functionality. Only problem is that the body is ~1500$ (without a starter len's) and the good VR's run from what I have ~700 or so to well very very expensive.
