Default Can somebody get my back on this

OK, theres this guy where I work that thinks his Z4 2.5 (MT) can beet my S2000. The only mods I have are 4.77's and a K&N air filter. This guy is saying that he bought a chip for his BMW that gave him 75 hp and 18 ft/lbs. Does that sound a little outragous to anyone else or it just me. I would race him immediately but my car is still being shipped and I won't get it for another 2 months. I gotta go.

A chip that gives him 30% more power (roughly) but just a bit more torque? I think the two would increase about the same, so I'm doubting it based on numbers comparison alone.

I don't know what Dinan can do with the new Z4s (or Hamann or whatever) but I'm doubting that a single chip will do that much for that motor. BMW didn't leave THAT much room for improvement without adding I/H/E (at a minimum) along with a chip.

Yup JonBoy, I'm raising the BS flag on the chip. BMW engines are pretty well tuned from the factory, and to go a step further there is no modern NA motor that will gain that much from a chip alone. If there was a chip that even made a fraction of that power, it would probably destroy the fuel economy, power curve, and idle in favor of a few peak hp.

Stock for stock it would probably be a race, but with the 4.77 you should be able to take him, even with the superchip.

I don't think stock for stock would be a race. The S2000 should kill a 2.5 Z4.
It would be a better race with the 3.0L Z4 MT.

There is no chip that gives that much horsepower.

It would be a better race with the 3.0L Z4 MT.
They should be dead even, with the driver deciding the winner.

LOL -- if you wish to believe that 4.77's are going to magically make the S2000 that much faster, I'm not stopping you.

There is no way a chip or remap could unleash 75bhp on an normally aspirated engine that already has 192bhp! Even on a turbo car a chip is only likey to bring an increase of 20-25% without severely screwing the car.

Your mate is talking BS.

Anyway any stock S2000 will whoop a 2.5 Z4 unless the driver is crap.
