Cadillac XLR (Pics) and Thoughts

The "EVOQ" looked amazing. This design lost quite a bit of it's appeal, but I imagine that a few after market cosmetic mods can have it looking pretty sharp again. Tranny? Some type of SMG (preferably with paddles) would be nice.

Just a few tidbits about it:
It'll have a retractable hardtop ala the SL and SLK (I think all are done by the same supplier?)
Uses the DOHC Northstar 4.6L v8, massaged for a bit more power.
Based on the next-gen Corvette platform, from the same Bowling Green plant which only did 'Vettes, but it'll be out first.
Alas, only an automatic transmission.

It looks much better in person than in pictures. You can't really get a good feel for how low and wide it is. I agree though, the design engineers made to many changes from the original EVOQ show car. However, I think this is a good first attempt. For 75k not bad in the realm that it competes in. They need to get a bit more aggressive with the wheel/tire package and maybe some extended wheel well body work.

I saw one last week. It took me by surprise because I didn't think they were out yet.
My first impression was "That's a boxy lookin' wannabe sports car. What the HELL is it. Then I realized it was the Caddy and I took a closer look. Yep, its kinda crude in it's styling with no attention to aerodynamics. Nothing sexy about it. More like a retired businessman who's been on the front line far too long.
Flacid, hard and cold.

Looks decent, but I feel the whole "art and science" concept will come around and kick Cadillac in the ass. It will be hell to sell one of these things on the secondary in four years time. I hate vanilla styling, but this is too edgy. Also, it definitely needs a severe power increase to truly compete with the Euro GTs.

Autoweek had a side profile pic of one, and my first impression was that they were quite inspired by the S2000's styling. Look @ one directly from the side, and you'll see.
