What do you guys think about the XLR? I thought it was only a concept but saw a Cadillac ad in Automobile Magazine that states it will be sold in Early 2003.

Gimme a "U"
Gimme a "G"
Gimme a "L"

What's that spell? "Cadillac needs to hire some designers who know what a curve is!"
Seriously, it's ugly. Cadillac is trying hard with every new model to outdo the Aztec on the ugliness scale. The front end of recent Cadillacs is hideous. The Seville and Eldorado are still ok looking (compared to the rest of Cadillac's lineup) but the CTS, Escalade, EXT, & Deville are all pretty ugly.

Based on the photos that I've seen, I think it looks awful. The design is now nowhere near as cohesive or edgy as the Evoq show car. It looks like they made a lot of compromises for the production model. And although this is supposed to be Caddy's edgy, new styling theme for the new millenium, it really looks like some of their earlier land-yachts to me, particularly with the large, flat hood. Not especially sporty-looking, either.
I really can't imagine why anyone would buy one of these over an SL, provided that the prices are even remotely close to one another. The SL, particlularly with AMG sport package, looks fantastic and is a brilliantly engineered car with absolutely cutting-edge technology. I'd love to get my hands on an SL 55, even with the automatic transmission. And what about resale value? Caddys have pitiful resale value. You can go out an pick up a slightly used STS for pennies on the dollar (OK, maybe nickels and dimes). In five years, the SL, however, will still be worth a significant chunk of change. So, that has to be considered when looking at purchasing costs, and in the end, the SL will likely be cheaper to own when it comes time to buy that next dream machine.
So, my expert and scientific projection is that Caddy should sell about 74 of those roadsters (accounting for all of the die hard Cadillac enthusiasts out there).
