C5 Z06 or new C6

Don't tell me you guys give a rat's @ss about top speed? The ZR1 beats BOTH of them and somehow I doubt you start salivating over it because of that. The C5 Z06 edges out the C6 Z51 in every way that counts. Don't forget it was geared for highway gas mileage and stock-trim top speed is in 5th gear (not 6th). Lots of people swap out the 3.42 rear end and to 3.73 or 3.90 for about $1500.

Here is a video of me driving my friend's yellow '04 Z06 with a Borla exhaust everything else stock while he filmed against a completely bone stock C6 Z51 six-speed with a few hundred miles on it.
Please note:
1. Z06 had two people which DOES make a difference
2. Z06 had Borla exhaust which adds a couple horsepower
Result:
C5 Z06, especially this one, is obviously faster, though the C6 performed better than we expected.
Notes:
This race was from a slow 1st gear roll to approximately 145mph (top of 4th gear)

Drive them both. If you're coming from an S2k, I suspect you'll like the C6 better because of the size and refinement.

2002 Z06 BuyItNow: $33k

2003 Z06 BuyItNow: $37k

2003 Z06 BuyItNow: $31.5k

And there are about 40 more on there. The prices are great. If you don't care about newness or warranty (in some cases though extended warranties do work...ask me how I know ) the C5 Z06 is a compelling value.

I know people discount the capability, but I really like the removable roof panel. When in a nice climate it is easy to have it off for alot for in-town driving.
True it is not a good option for much highway use, it does take an extra minute to put on/off (could even be too awkward for some), and takes some storage area, but is a great standard feature that I would miss on a Z06.
Also think too many assume that mileage must be low on these cars. Naturally it will be if you just flog it in lower gears, but it I have found it is about the same or a bit better than the S2000 the way I drive.. I have averaged about 18-19 in both cars.
You can take my comments with a grain of salt.. I don

Interesting, no personal experience of my own, but in the latest C/D cover story (Shelby Mustang vs. Corvette), the C6 seats were pretty much slammed, and were about the biggest criticism of the C6 that they mentioned.
Are the C5 seats even WORSE, or was C/D out of line?
